Senior Staff Software Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering organization and take ownership of complex technical initiatives across our software projects and client engagements.

This is a senior technical leadership position for an engineer who combines deep hands-on engineering expertise, architectural judgment, and strong technical leadership.

You will work closely with engineering teams, technical leadership, product stakeholders, and clients to design, build, scale, and improve reliable software systems.

This is not a management-only position. We are looking for someone who remains highly technical and is comfortable writing production code, reviewing designs, debugging difficult problems, and making architectural decisions.

• Lead the architecture and implementation of complex software systems.
• Design scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable distributed systems.
• Make high-impact technical decisions across multiple projects and engineering teams.
• Write and review production-quality code.
• Establish engineering standards, development practices, and architectural guidelines.
• Conduct technical design reviews and provide thoughtful engineering feedback.
• Identify technical risks and develop practical solutions before they become major problems.
• Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and observability.
• Work directly with clients and technical stakeholders when necessary.
• Translate business and product requirements into robust technical solutions.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Must currently reside in South America.
• Strong experience designing and building production software systems.
• Deep expertise in one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, Java, C#, C++, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, databases, networking, and system architecture.
• Experience designing systems that operate at meaningful scale.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and production operations.
• Excellent understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions when requirements are ambiguous or incomplete.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineers, executives, clients, and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong hands-on experience in areas such as:

• Languages: Go, Python, Java, C#, C++, TypeScript, JavaScript
• Backend: REST APIs, gRPC, microservices, distributed systems
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, or similar
• Cloud: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Linux
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog, or similar
• Messaging: Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, Pub/Sub, or similar
• Architecture: Distributed systems, event-driven architecture, service-oriented architecture, high-availability systems

You do not need experience with every technology listed above. We care more about strong engineering fundamentals, depth of experience, and the ability to learn and apply new technologies effectively.

You will:

• Think beyond individual services. Understand how systems, teams, products, infrastructure, and business requirements fit together.
• Solve ambiguous problems. Take problems where the solution is not obvious and turn them into clear technical strategies.
• Lead without relying on authority. Influence engineering decisions through technical judgment, communication, and execution.
• Stay hands-on. You should still enjoy writing code, debugging production systems, reviewing pull requests

Location Requirement

This is a fully remote position for candidates currently residing in South America.

Candidates must be able to work effectively with our engineering organization and client teams and maintain the required overlap with our working hours.
